BELL GUARDS EDITION

The Bellguards have been a tradition at our school since the 60’s, however there are many things students at Garland do not know about them. They are seen by everyone at pep rallies and football games, but they only see their stunts. There is so much more to being a Bellguard.

At games it seems like the Bellguards just do whatever they want to do whenever they feel like, but in reality they watch the other school’s “Bellguards” to see when they do stunts and what they are doing. This is so that they can try and one up them.

There are several stunts that the Bellguards always do, but if they see another school do a stunt they haven’t seen before, if they think they can do it better they will attempt the stunts. Is this dangerous? Probably. Stunts need a lot of practice and doing them on the fly is not the smartest thing to do, but then again Bellguards aren’t known for being the smartest people at the school.

It’s really fun for me because I’m the smallest one, so they do a lot of stunts with me like surfboard and helicopters…

Gamer Review

Minecraft is Sandbox video game, which enables players to creatively build what they want out of textured cubes. With multiple game modes the player isn’t limited to what they can do in game. Gameplay can vary from Survival, where you must collect supplies, build your shelter, maintain health; to Multiplayer, where you can choose between surviving with friends or play mini-games. Within the game you can opt. to explore the amazing environment, before settling down and establishing your base.

With my experience of Sandbox games, Minecraft is one of the top five. The game can truly put to the test, your creative abilities. One of my favorite features of the game, is the survival aspect. Having to go through the process of collecting your supplies, while trying to survive the monsters that try to kill you can be very intense. Minecraft itself can become boring when playing by yourself, therefore I recommend playing with a friend(s). In game graphics can be easily changed, due to the fact that players can easily customize the look of the game as the player sees fit. I myself would rate the game 9/10, due to the fact that the game is constantly being improved upon.

When asked about the creative Sandbox world Johnny Tovar (11) said “It can help you be creative and bring you into another world.” “From time to time the game can become dull and simple. But the game can be very fun and enjoyable when playing alone or with friends.” replied Johnny when asked about his overall opinion.

Minecraft overall is a very engaging creative environment, that’ll put your imagination to the test. Definitely a game to try if you enjoy an open world experience.

People are weird sometimes. Some people have strange phobias or ways of doing a normal task. Since the holidays are coming up, we decided to focus on strange yet common food phobias and quirks. Simply thinks that some people do with their food that others find weird or unusual.

In order to find these quirks I went around the school and asked some classmates if they had any food phobias to talk about. One of the first and most controversial quirks I found was none other than the Ketchup and Fries ordeal. Talking about this took a good 15 mins to calm everyone down from. For those of you who don’t know this conflict is about whether it’s okay to drissel the ketchup over the fries of if you should do what it seems the majority does and make a puddle out to the side and simply dip the fries in said puddle. In the opinion of most of the people i talked to it is Not okay to dissel ketchup on your fries

So in general, these food phobias could really be plotted on a scale from just food quirks to actual phobias. Let’s start with the phobias. Out of the people I talked to, very few had actual phobias, however the ones who did had almost the same Phobia/ tic. One of which being that their food could not be touching or that they have to eat their food in a specific order. Now just to clarify on the eating their food in a specific order it’s more like they eat all of one thing at a time. For instance, if you have Chicken, Rice, and Beans one your plate; you might eat the all of chicken first then all of the rice then all of the beans.

Now on to the lesser phobias though these could probably be called a food system or an order of operation. Some people eat and drink in a specific order such as someone eating all their food first and then drinking their beverage like my classmate Alma (12th grade) said

“ I like to eat my food before I drink my water.”. While others drink their beverage first and then begin to eat their food, but then there’s also the people( like me ) who eat and bring in the same setting meaning we don’t wait till our plate is empty or we don’t wait till after our drink is gone.

Last but not least you have the food quirks, being the little unusual things that some people may do. For instance there are people who like their cereal soggy, or at least not hard, rather than crunchy. Osama Abderamar said and I quote, “ I like my Flakes soggy”, referring to the cereal Frosted Flakes. Fernanda Paryas as well said, “ I like my cereal soggy because it’s too crunchy otherwise.”. The same thing can be found with oreos or cookies when being dipped in milk. Tabitha Griffin says, “I think it tastes better because the flavors meld together more.”. I’m sure there are many other things that people do differently with their food. Though all I can say for the students reading this article is don’t knock it before you try it. For all you know it would taste great.

LEFT HAND VS.

RIGHT HAND

This is a right hand dominated world. ~90% of the population are right handed, and for that reason, all generalized products are made for right handed people, which makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is making left handed supplies hard to acquire, and making them more expensive than right handed products, for example, scissors, desks, binders, etc. So today we will be discussing the advantages and disadvantages of being a lefty, then it is up to you to decide which group is superior.
